As a group of 7 from different parts of the world we attended this restaurant Oct 15 2018, based on reviews. We were one of the first tables there. We ordered our food and drinks. Some time passed when I noticed tables who came in later were receiving their food before us. Our friend had to remind the server to bring her drinks, my food was salty, the pasta was too soft. The next day the consensus from all of us was poor food and poor service. Never again.
My family came down from Montreal and Pembroke to celebrate the Christening of my granddaughter. We chose Tosca's because of the food and the service. The waiters were so friendly and paid attention to the needs of the clients. The food was delicious! We were a group of 24. I would definitely choose this venue as the place to host a party. Thank you for making this a nice experience for everyone.
We visited on a Saturday night, and it was steady but not overly busy (it is a little bit out of the way from Parliament etc so it was mostly locals on this night). The service was attentive, friendly and polite without being overly intrusive. The service was fast, and overall the food was good. We have no complaints about the taste of the food. The servings were very large for the price-in retrospect we should have ordered the half servings since we didn't want to take a doogy bag with us. We would return the next time we're in Ottawa. And bring a big appetite!
This was my first and last visit to Tosca's. First, my friend ordered the Fusilli Primavera (pasta and vegetables) with cream sauce. The vegetables looked like they were from a freezer bag and not fresh, in fact according to my friend they tasted like previously frozen vegetables...seriously, this place is going to charge $17 for pasta and vegetables and they don't even use fresh veggies? Seriously? Next, I ordered the Cesar plus added chicken and a little penne. I knew immediately from looking at the dish that the chicken was emulsified. Emulsified means that you do not actually receive a real chicken breast, the meat is from different parts of a chicken such as legs, back and thighs that are mechanically formed to look like a real chicken breast. Now having a wonderful San Franciscan palate, I know I have high standards but I don't eat emulsified chicken and I avoid restaurants that use this product. Typically this means I avoid franchise restaurants as they generally cut corners by serving fake chicken. I assumed Tosca's was decent place; safe enough to order a chicken breast to accompany my Cesar salad. I was charged an extra $6 for the fake chicken plus an extra $5 for requesting a bit of penne to be mixed into my salad. Although the price was the least offensive part about the meal experience, I was not impressed at a total charge of $ 21 for a chicken Cesar salad. When the young served asked about my salad, I told him the chicken was emulsified. An experienced waiter would have immediately taken the chicken off my bill but regardless I would still post this review so that those with quality meat standards would have a window into the chicken being served at Tosca's. Save your money for a satisfying restaurant experience. Lastly, I would seriously question some of the reviews on this site and Yelp -- my perception is that they were written by restaurant staff.
We were a party of approximately 40 at lunch on Aug 26. The first time I ate there, the lunch was free because it was so bad. This was my second visit, This time with a large group. First off, the meal was great. Although 1 person waited so long for her meal that plates were being removed from the table before her meal came. Our server did not come by to see if everything was ok. Had she, she would have seen that the woman still had no food. I stopped one of the servers and asked that he please check on her meal because plates were being removed and she had not even had her meal. He brought out immediately. It makes one wonder how long it was sitting there waiting for someone to pick it up. It was not a special order. It was a meal on the menu. Our server, a young woman, not very friendly. No pleastries, nothing - very cold. Others serving our other tables,,young men at least smiled on occassion. The busboy (man) was another story. He asked the woman sitting beside me if she was done her meal, she said no, I am not. He said are you sure? The busboy (man) and other servers had a few words at one point behind our table. Go in the kitchen if you need words. It was obvious the restaurant was busy...but go in the kitchen. Customers don't need to hear your problems. When it was time for the bills to be paid our server ( woman) not once did she say thank you. The woman beside me did not know how to work the credit/debit machine and when she asked for help, the server (woman) did not take the time to explain. She literally pressed the buttons and said something along the lines of "just enter your pin... in a not friendly tone. The last straw, as some of our group were leaving the table, people came by to say good luck to our guest of honour, the busboy (man) said " don't block my way you stupid women"! Yeah No - not going to happen again!
