Great food and the butter tarts are to die for. But what do they cost? Two weeks ago I went in and got 6 plain tarts for $15.00 even. A little high priced but tasted great. Today I stopped in because I was on Main Street and decided to get only four tarts. Just over $13.00 ????? I asked what a tart costs and got double talk and when I wanted to see a price list there is none. Always a nice trip to old Main Street but never again to The Maids Cottage!
We are Maids Cottage regulars and have rarely if ever been disappointed. The food is as close to home cooked as you will ever get in any restaurant, in any city, anywhere in the world. We're not talking Haute Cuisine here but Comfort Food. Any of the rare times there has been anything that I didn't like or took to long (they can be very, very busy at times) the staff has been more than accommodating about making it right. The service is fast, friendly and personal. And yes the butter tarts are as good as everyone says.
The casual atmosphere was just what we needed having taken the morning to hunt through dusty antiques before deciding we needed a bite to eat. Nothing fancy about us, so it was nice that they welcomed the kind of down to earth people we were. The service was better than most because it was less polished and more personal. :)
The food is amazng it is like eating at Nana's. Homecooked meals for a really good price. I love how you can see everyone preparing the food in the Kitchen and talking, joking around. It's like being at Nana's in the kitchen with family...without having to clean up the dishes.
We are repeat customers at the Maid's Cottage - as a matter of fact -it's the one place my Mom always wants to go to when she comes to town. Meals are fresh, hot and excellent- the bread is unbelievable and the butter tarts are the best ever. Portions are substantial but all the better to take home and enjoy again the next day for lunch. PS - I agree with Kyle - Anne needs to get a grip - she'd downright cringe if she saw the inside of the "high end" kitchens I've seen - Maid's cottage is clean and I feel quite comfortable with the open kitchen concept - these ladies have nothing to hide but the hard work that goes into making fantastic food.
My wife and I went with friends who live in the Newmarket area and are Maid's Cottage regulars. We'd be regulars too if it was closer to Willowdale. It's located in a quaint section of the old town of Newmarket about a block from public parking. The service was prompt and very friendly. Three servers looked after us and all were attentive and upbeat. Everything arrived quickly and was piping hot. The Tortellini soup was delicious but so generous that I abandoned it so that I had room for the entree (which I did finish). The cabbage roll was as good as I've ever had and very filling. Desert for all of us was their famous butter tarts. These might be the best in the world - I can't imagine anything better! We bought a dozen to go on the way out. Almost everything on the menu is available at the counter to take home. The only down side is that many of the daily specials were gone by 1PM and the variety on the menu is a tad limited. As a regular, I'd eat there maybe once a week. This restaurant deserves it's excellent reputation.
I found the egg salad a bit dry. Soup was delicious and the buttertart was amazing. I will go back, actually I was telling my employees about the buttertarts, now I have to go back and pick some up for them.
I will be back to enjoy another meal. The staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I loved the fun of the place.
This is a little gem in Newmarket. The most AMAZING buttertarts around! The Maids Cottage is the best place to go for real homemade comfort food!
Great home style meals and comfort food, as well as the best ever buttertarts!
We LOVE the Maids Cottage and everything about it. Superb service and EVERY time...they all make you feel so welcome! Like one of the "family". All of the dishes are wonderful, however... you simply cannot go there without having one of THE best ever butter tarts! WooHoo!
Even the salads are comfort foods. Delicious food, attractively presented in a warm and intimate setting right on Main Street, Newmarket.
foods great Jackie is the best server and Terry AKA Cookie is the best cook ever. Don't just go there for the food go there for the show as well Best Butter Tarts Ever!!! try the pecan and the apple crumble tarts!!!
when it arrived it was cold-and i mean cold all the way through. Ecoil cold...My server did not even say sorry for the way it was presented to me. I waited while it was heated in the microwave for 20 min after which my guest had allready eaten their lunch. I will never eat there again. I didnt even get a discount!!!!
